In pondering the wild ride of my life + 1,200 or so therapy clients’ stories + 500 or so awesome people’s stories online…I’ve distilled the following gems. Please go here to read 99 other people’s beautiful bits of wisdom to improve your own life.

*****

We are all human, and have the same basic needs-clothing, shelter, food, water, and others’ support.

Honesty with the self and others is desperately needed in today’s flashy world.

Becoming an adult doesn’t HAVE to mean the death of your dreams.

Be open. Say “Yes!” more. Release fear. Retain Respect.

There really are universal laws. Asking permission before delving deeply into someone’s brain, home, body, desires is one of them.

Provide informed consent at the very beginning of any new relationship about your expectations–this saves a lot of heartache.

Quit plugging up the heart voice and do it. Focus on the how, not the excuses.

Your life’s happiness is dependent on the 5 people closest to you. Choose this sacred circle carefully.

LISTEN to people when they tell you they’re not ready. Don’t force it to happen too quickly.

Realize that YOU are powerful beyond measure, and use that power for good only.

Give of yourself freely. It is the hoarding of self which suffocates the love freely flowing.

Paradoxically, recognize your own limits.

A conversation or friendship which is left unfinished will always cycle back around.

Allow yourself the luxury of grieving the loss of innocence.

Pay attention fully to the people you are with in the moment.

Take time to recharge yourself daily.

Realize that you are beautiful, whole, and precious without anyone else at all.

Eat clean food, tread lightly upon the earth, and exercise daily–your health is precious.

Accept criticism gratefully–and with a grain of salt!

Always consider the source. Would you want this person representing you to the world?

When all else fails, sleep on it.

There truly is a time and a season for everything. Everything ebbs and flows–the circle of life.

There’s very little which we need to hold closely–we tend to kill things we cage.

Allow people to be themselves, and always seek to bring out the best in them.

Treasure the pieces of self people share with you.

We possess nothing, not even our bodies. See how impermanent you are. A speck, a drop in the cosmos.

Remember this-death can come at any moment. How much life are you willing to waste being bored, unhappy, or “stuck?”

GET OUT THERE AND LIVE YOUR DREAM!

Hi Jeanie,

I really like how you gave a list of many straightforward life lessons. There are so many I agree with and I myself have learnt over time. I especially like 'Quit plugging up the heart voice and do it. Focus on the how, not the excuses'. I tend to stop following my heart because of guilt. I always amplify on how much it would hurt or upset other people rather than stepping back to look at the bigger picture and just how much better things can be if I follow my gut.

Another thing I found interesting is this: 'A conversation or friendship which is left unfinished will always cycle back around.' I've never noticed this happening but I guess certain friendships are lost for a reason. Perhaps they were not meant for us to begin with or they were only meant to be there during a certain period of time. :)

Thank you for sharing your Life Lessons with us! We also have a list of our own Life Lessons on our blog. Cheers!

Well, I always notice that a friendship which has more to give growth wise....will pop back up to teach us more. It may be me trying to accept the loss of awesome people...but if they are not willing to keep in touch with me to begin with, then maybe they weren't as awesome as I thought.

Howdy Jeanie!

I love the way that your blog is. It's lovely and inspiring at the same time. :)
Let me tell you that I'm a tireless dreamer, and I believe that if I not live my present, I won't have a tomorrow, therefore, we need to run that race towards our dreams all the time, because time it's not waiting for us. Sometimes, we waste time on things that are empty and bring only frustration to our lives, It's not fear!! because we are here to walk being walkers with sense of freedom.

Thank you Jeanie for this opportunity!

Best,
Viviana

I appreciate your thoughts, Viviana!

"Imagine there's no countries...a brotherhood of man..Imagine all the people...living for today." -Imagine, John Lennon

I want...people to help, understand, and accept others and themselves. I look forward to getting to know you better!

Beautiful! Thank you for writing this - your writing sings, I love it!

So much wonderful wisdom, but this has to be my favorite: "Realize that YOU are powerful beyond measure, and use that power for good only." The power sometimes feels like I'm channeling the 'divine', the energy of the universe.

:) Thank you so much for your support!

I look at my words and think, "I could've done so much better. I HAVE done so much better..."

"Becoming an adult doesn't HAVE to mean the death of your dreams." Yay! Good stuff Jeanie! I'm currently reminding myself that becoming a parent doesn't HAVE to mean the death of yourself as an individual :)

I often tell my clients: "You were human first, with your own thoughts and dreams. Then part of a couple, and then a parent third." A lot of people don't really want to hear this..

Jeanie, this is so good, I love it!
The choice of words is impressive. You are powerful beyond measure :)
Use the force..

Emiel

Why, thank you! I am an ardent admirer of your work as well!

Dear Jeanie, thanks so so much for doing this post - I love your flawless writing (it's rare, believe me) and your honest writing voice. Thank you so much for sharing your lessons and for teaching me a thing or two. I am very proud of how far and deep you are delving into the blogging world. It pays back in abundance. Enjoy the journey!!!

Thank you for complimenting my writing in light of your "Smart Habits for Writing Magnificently" manifesto. It's hard to see our mistakes!

I aspire also to your physical health. :)

Jeanie,

Lovely post and I especially liked, "Give of yourself freely. It is the hoarding of self which suffocates the love freely flowing."

Thank you so much for being a part of the Life Lessons Series.

I'm very grateful you allowed my newbie self to participate! I will do whatever I can to support positivity and growth in the world and blogosphere. Just let me know how! :)
